Types of Food & Feeding Methods

When it comes to feeding you ADFs there is quite a wide range of choices, both in the type of food you choose to feed, and how you feed it. While there are formulas created especially for these frogs, they are often hard to find and can be rather expensive for someone who isn't buying in bulk, because of this many people go with another type of food.  Below I have posted a simple feeding guide for those new to these frogs.

Types of Food
There are many options when it comes to what you're going to feed your frogs. ADFs are carnivores, and they can eat a variety of different foods such as:
  • Blood-worms
  • Brine Shrimp
  • Guppy Fry
  • Commercial Frog/Tadpole Pellets
Feeding Methods
To start with, there are three main categories of methods to choose from: Live, Dried, or Frozen.
Live - This is one of the more popular types of food. Many who choose this type of food will farm it themselves, though many pet stores sell varieties of live-feed as well.
Dried - This is probably the least preferred type of food as it does not sink, making it tricky to feed your frogs. Also, it is often said that food loses nutrition in the drying process.
Frozen - This is my preference in food. It comes with the hassle-free convenience of dried food, combined with the superior quality of live. Best of both worlds!

You need to feed your frogs about every other day and be careful not to over-feed as the food tends to fowl the water more than the actual frogs do. These frogs eat only what falls to the bottom and is right in front of them, so if you have fish living with them it can be difficult job to get done. Some use a turkey-baster to suck up the food and squirt it onto the floor of the tank, some use a set of tweezers. I have a Betta living with my frogs, I usually toss in a chunk of frozen blood-worms that's about 1 square inch in size. The Betta will pick bits off as the chunk defrosts, and worms scatter to the bottom of the tank for the frogs.
